James W. Breyer is an American venture capitalist and partner of Accel Partners, President of Accel Management Company, and founder/CEO of Breyer Capital, a global diversified investment firm.

Early life

Breyer graduated from Stanford University in 1983, with a BS degree in computer science and economics. Breyer then worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Co., in New York. He earned an MBA from Harvard University, where he was named a Baker Scholar.

Early life and education

Bowles was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina and is the son of Jessamine Woodward Boyce Bowles and the late Hargrove "Skipper" Bowles, Jr., a Democratic politician who once ran for Governor of North Carolina, in 1972, but lost. Siblings include Hargrove Bowles III, Mary Holland Bowles Blanton and the late Martha Thomas Bowles. Bowles graduated from Virginia Episcopal Schoolbefore attending college. Bowles attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was admitted to the Zeta Psi fraternity and graduated with a business degree. After briefly serving in the United States Coast Guard, Bowles then enrolled in Columbia Business School, where he earned an MBA.

He was an early investor in Facebook, the popular social-networking site, and sits on the company’s board of directors. Thiel was ranked #365 on the Forbes 400 in 2010, with a net worth of US$1.5 billion. However, this number now underestimates his wealth as his Facebook share alone, at a 2010 valuation, is worth US$1.7bn. Peter Thiel lives in San Francisco, California.
